Diamond Head Sprinklers Atoms Taking Stride
The Diamond Head Sprinklers Atom LL #1 team has had a great start to the 2014-15 season.  We are now 8 games in and hold a very respectable record of 4-3-1 and are currently on a 3 game unbeaten streak.  With the 3 losses of the 8 games being losses against the 2 undefeated Stayner teams, we have played great all around hockey and managed to achieve that hard fought record.  The coaching staff has seen improvements in all aspects of the game from this team and have been impressed by their dedication.

With a great group of kids who all are excited to learn and to have fun we have been able to create some early season success.  Starting with the fact we needed to ask the team for volunteers to step up and play goalie as we had no one with prior goaltending experience.  Raffi Febrraro and Trenton Peterson were the two that have stood up and decided they would like to help the team in this capacity.  Both have done a fantastic job each playing 4 games thus far and leading us to an above 500 record thus far.  Both have also played in an important role offensively when not in net.

Our defencemen have also played a big roll in helping keep the goals out, as well as pitching in on the offense when needed and the opportunity has arose.  Hayden King, Nathan Scruton, Wesley Nelson and Kyle Towns have all been a rock back there working hard and providing the back end assistance needed.

Josh Nichols, Tanner Playne and Nikolas Schepers have taken on the lion share of centre and have provided some great two way action.  They have not only provided a lot of the offense we have needed in order to put the goals up on the board in order to help get the wins but their defensive play has not gone unnoticed.

With 3 of our 4 main wingers being their first or second year of hockey they have looked to Gavin Fay as an example and he has provided that playing his position very well and adding to the offensive numbers.  Ty Williams, Ian Vanlaarhoven and Ashton Birch have all improved leaps and bounds.  As you watch them play you would never know they have little prior experience.  They all continue to improve and have chipped in when needed both on an offensive and defensive capacity contributing to the teams success.

When all is said and done this Atom local league team is starting to find their way around the ice.  They are all working hard and really starting to play as a team.  We are looking forward to our first tournament in Hagersville at the end of the month as we get away and really start to bond as a team.  If you get a chance come on out and watch this exciting young team.  You will see a great group of kids playing hard, having fun and all done with a smile on their faces.  Let's keep up the great work Coyotes!
