To All EMHA Coyote Members

As has become tradition every year as we get our children ready to go back to school, our Coyote tryouts begin.  We wish the best of luck to all players trying out for our Rep or AE teams over the next few weeks.  As tryouts wind down our LL teams will also start to practice.  Thanks to all of our coaches who have volunteered for the season.  Without you we would be unable to offer hockey to our many young players.

We are still looking for coaches for many of our Local League teams.  If you are interested please contact Shane Hall.  EMHA will also be hosting some specialty clinics for coaches in the area. These are a great way to improve our coaching and can be used towards your re-certification as well.  Check our website for details.

Our IP festival will take place on September 28th.  All our IP and Tyke teams will have practice time and be invited to enjoy a start of season BBQ to meet other families and learn a little about EMHA and our younger aged programs.

This season we have almost 60 tyke aged players.  With this, we have decided to go with 5 teams and use an IN HOUSE league format.  This will allow us to schedule our games more easily, start the season sooner, run it longer and set up our own league rules with the possibility of organizing playoffs.  Exhibition games or tournaments can be used to play a few teams from other centres.

In our Bantam Age group we have only 2 goalies for 3 teams.  We have applied for Goaltender Relief with the OMHA.  If we can not find another center with an excess of goalies then we will have to rely on one of our existing players to step up and play goalie.  So if anyone out there has contemplated trying goalie in the Bantam division, this may be the year to do so.

As I discussed with the Midget players who attended our conditioning skate, we are in need of some additional Midget aged players so that we can have 3 teams.  At this point we have too many for 2 teams but not enough for 3 teams.  With an additional  3 or more players we could try to have 3 Midget teams.  They would be small teams but otherwise we will not have a place for a couple Midget age players to play this season if we have to go with 2 teams.

Unfortunately this season, we only had 6 Juvenile players sign up so we have decided not to have a Juvenile team this year.  We will do our best to find a place for these players to play.

Those of you who were able to attend our AGM in May will recall our lengthy discussion around the booth again.  We will have a special meeting in the New Year to give members a chance to have their say and determine if we will continue with the booth for next season.  Watch for details in the New Year.

Team Pictures will take place on October 15 and 16th when the ice is out.  There will be opportunities then to purchase our Coyote Apparel for the season.

As we are aware participating in hockey entails undertaking some large financial commitment but there is some assistance available from EMHA and several other avenues including the Chevy hockey helmet program for 5 years olds, Canadian Tire Jump Start etc.  Please let us know if we can be of assistance in some way.

See you at the Rink

Kevin Fay
