Novice LL#1 Molars Visit Port Carling
The Novice LL#1 Mighty Molars traveled to Port Carling this weekend to play in the annual Novice Tournament.  The tournament was a six team, 3 game event, with teams from; Port Carling, Innisfil, Oro, South Muskoka, Coldwater and Elmvale taking part.

The Molars took the ice first against the Coldwater Novice Rep team on Sunday morning.   A back and forth battle through the 1st 2 periods were highlighted by #3 Danielle pulling three pucks off the goal line that were headed for the back of the net.  A total of 5 goals were scored in the third, 2 by Elmvale and 3 by Coldwater, with a highlight pass #4 Kaden forwarding the puck on the tape up centre ice to #17 Garreth who netted a top shelf laser beam.  Our other goals, by #7 Owen and #15 Owen, with assists by #8 Gillian, #10 Shayne and #14 Josh and a stellar goaltending performance by #1 Robbie, made all the parents proud but Coldwater's potent #96, who scored 5 of Coldwater's 6 goals earned top marks in what was a spirited and effort filled Wildcats 6-3 victory.

Just an hour later, the Coyotes laced up their skates again, this time to face the small, but very talented and fast South Muskoka Tyke Select team.   There were plenty of scoring chances for Elmvale against the bears and some great defensive puck clearing and keeping the puck in at the blueline by our defense #2 Robbie, #3 Danielle, #8 Gillian and #14 Josh, but a hot Bears goaltender stopped all but one shot, scored by #17 Garreth.  Scoring chances by #5 Cameron, #6 Michael, #9 Nolan, and #11 Cayden kept the parents on the edge of their seats and the coaches jumping up and down on the bench.  Some key saves by Elmvale's goalie #31 Kaden helped to secure a 1-1 tie against the high-flying bears.

After a few hours rest, some lunch and of course a big mini-sticks game (so there really wasn't that much rest after all), we took the ice again, this time against division rival, the Oro Thunder.  Oro twice took the lead 1-0 and 2-1 only to have the Coyotes respond with huge goals by Tyke AP #6 Michael and #15 Owen which was set up by #9 Nolan. With the game tied at 2 with 5 minutes left to play #7 Owen grabbed a loose puck in the corner, scanned the ice and slid a sweet pass to a wide open #11 Cayden in the slot who buried the go ahead goal into the back of the net.  To secure the victory for Coyotes goaltender #1 Shayne, our other Tyke AP #5 Cameron netted an insurance goal with just over a minute left in the game.

On behalf of the coaching staff and players, we want to thank Port Carling Minor Hockey for hosting an amazing tournament and more so the parents of Novice LL#1 for the commitment and support you give your little hockey players.
