Novice Rep WIN 40th Annual Silver Stick
The Novice Rep Elmvale Coyotes opened the Silver Stick Tournament in a special ceremony with the Wasaga Beach Stars on Friday night to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the tournament being held at Wasaga Beach. After speeches from the Mayor of Wasaga Beach and a member of the tournament organization committee, the puck was dropped by the Mayor. Cake, coffee and tea were being served up to all attendees while the Coyotes got to work on the ice.

The team worked hard doing all the little things right and quickly took the lead against the Wasaga Beach Stars and never looked back. A strong defensive game kept Wasaga’s scoring chances low and Elmvale attacked the goal netting in 7. Final score 7-1.

Next, we faced off against the Twin Centre Stars. After end to end action, the score board still remained 0-0 after 1 period. Then the red light went on a flashing frenzy in the 2nd period while the teams exchanged goals one after the other, with Elmvale taking a 1 goal lead going into the 3rd period. Twin Centre tied it up late into the period with the scoreboard reading 4-4. With 50 seconds left on the clock, Brady McLaren scored the game winner securing us a berth into the semi-final Sunday morning. Final score 5-4.

Up next: Oro Thunder! Oro came out swinging and took a two goal lead in the first period. Then we came alive and got two goals back in the second period and evened things out again. Oro scored again in the 3rd period and was looking forward to going to the finals when thunder struck for Elmvale! With only 16 seconds on the clock, Brady McLaren scored the tying goal sending the game into overtime. Goaltender, Jonas Columbus was a force to be reckoned with ensuring the puck stayed out of our net. The Coyotes continued to attack and it paid off with awesome goal by Brady McLaren for a spectacular win sending the team’s Hockey Moms into a screaming frenzy! Final score 4-3 in OT.

The Silver Stick Finals pitted Elmvale Coyotes against the Penetang Flames. After losing twice to Penetang during the regular season, these Coyotes were looking to extinguish the Flames! With fire under Elmvales’s skates they took the early lead and never let Penetang take it back. With a 4-3 lead late into the third period, the Coyotes played a strong defensive game keeping the Flames out of our end. As the clock counted down to zero, the team threw off their gloves in celebration reminiscing of winning the Cup! Congratulations Team for taking home the Regional Silver Stick Championship!

Congratulations to Jonas Columbus for taking home Elmvale’s MVP honours. Final Score 4-3

With winning the Regional Silver Stick Tournament, the team is invited to the play in the International Silver Stick Tournament in St. Clair Shores, Michigan in January.
