Atom Reps in Lincoln
The Lions Club Atom Rep team entered their second tournament this past weekend.  The boys travelled south to Beamsville to the annual Doug Robinson tournament.  The team got a favourable schedule that required them to start the tournament at 6:00 pm Friday evening.  They enjoyed the sunshine on their way down the QEW as they prepared for the game that night.

The Coyotes first opponent was St. Mary's.  Early on the teams were fairly evenly matched as the first period ended the same way it began, scoreless.  In the second the boys from Elmvale took the lead on a deflection from in front.  The St. Mary's team seemed to get stronger as the game wore on and were able to take the lead, and ended up handing our boys their first loss of the season 5-2.

Next up for Elmvale was the Caledon Hawks.  The young team from Caledon were overmatched in this game, and the Coyotes rolled to an 11-1 triumph.  Even more impressive than this win was the way our goaltender played considering he was not feeling the greatest.  The hometown team, the Lincoln Blades, were our next foe.  The boys came out skating hard, scored early and cruised to a 6-1 victory.

Sunday morning was our last scheduled round robin game and our next opponents were the Tavistock Titans.  With St. Mary's already assuring a spot in the final game it was do or die for these two teams.  Elmvale ran into penalty trouble in the second, were on a 2 man disadvantage for a lengthy stretch although some timely saves and some great defensive play they were able to keep Tavistock at bay.  The Titans spent some time in the sin bin themselves in the third but the Coyotes failed to capitalize until the boys were able to bang a rebound past the Tavistock netminder with only :20 seconds left on the clock.  This win sent the kids to a rematch with the Rock.

Whether it was the late lunch that the Atom Rep team ate or the energy used up to get to the finals the Coyotes were no match for St. Mary's.  The Rock cruised to the 7-2 victory leaving Elmvale to wonder what went wrong.

All in all the boys played some great hockey against some excellent teams and should be proud of their accomplishments.

The Lions Club Atom Rep team will resume their season schedule on Friday night at 7:00 pm with a home game against Midland.

On a sad note the team would like to send its condolences to one of their coaches, Paul Priest, their teammate Jason Priest and the rest of the Priest family on the passing of Paul's mother.  Our thoughts are with you all in your time of sorrow.
