ATOM REPS DEFEAT GANANOQUE TO EARN FINALS BERTH
The Lions Club Atom team played the Gananoque Islanders in the OMHA Atom B semifinals.  Although the Coyotes had never played them this season the team was familiar with many of their players.  Most of these boys had played against each other in the Novice final two years ago.  Gananoque had played a tight series back then and this one promised to be just as close.  Even though Elmvale lost the coin toss the first game was played in Elmvale on Friday March 1st.

Both teams took the first few minutes to get a feel for each others strategies.  Elmvale seemed to find its legs and midway through the second Cade Preston scored from a tough angle to make it 1-0.  Elmvale held on to the one goal lead until Nathan Robertson scored to make it 2-0.  The Coyotes continued their strong defensive play as Jacob Sanderson secured the shutout and the win 2-0.

The team carpooled and made the four hour trek down the 401 to Gananoque for games two and three.  Game two started with Noah Parnell scoring an early goal which Elmvale held until late in the first when the Islanders tied it up.  Jason Priest restored the Coyotes lead in the second period and the boys were on their way.  The Atom Reps clung to the lead until late in the third when Gananoque's potent powerplay scored the equalizer.  Into overtime the teams went with both teams pushing hard for the victory.  Late in overtime there was a mad scramble around the Islanders net and Cade Preston somehow managed to score the winning goal.

After a good nights sleep at the local Holiday Inn the boys were ready for Game three.  With a chance to sweep Gan out of the playoffs Nathan Robertson scored in the first period and it looked like the win might be possible.  The Islanders weren't going down without a fight and were able to score three straight goals.  Nathan Robertson scored his second of the game to make it close but unfortunately it was not enough to pull out a win.   The Elmvale boys claimed that this was all part of their "master plan" and just wanted to win on home ice!

The Coyotes came out flying back in Elmvale for game four and Carter Crowder scored seconds into the first.  The team continued their barrage of the Islanders goal and increased their lead to 3-0 on goals from Nathan Robertson and Carter Crowder's second of the game.  Gananoque scored a powerplay goal to cut the lead to 3-1.  Elmvale held the lead until Jack Nell iced the game with an insurance goal and a 4-1 victory.  The Coyotes won the series 3 games to 1.

Up next for the Atom Reps are the Georgian Bay playoffs as well as preparing for the OMHA finals which will start next weekend.
