Orr Lake Golf Club Peewee LL Travels to Colborne
The Orr Lake Golf Club Peewee LL#1 Team traveled to Colborne on the February 2nd weekend to participate in the Colborne Rotary Club Peewee LL tournament.  The kids were excited for an away tournament and the obligatory hotel stay and pool fun!

This one day tournament was going to prove to be a challenge for the team playing multiple games all in one day.  In the end they played 3 games in one day and still had energy for pizza and swimming after!

In their first game the team faced the Plattsville Rage.  It was a fast paced tight checking game.  The team got down 2 goals by midway through the first period behind a determined effort from their opponent.  Brendan Scott got the Coyotes back within a goal with a nice goal set up by Tyler Scott.

The second period saw the teams trade some chances but strong defense by Emily Racco, Drake Jonkman, Alden Barrington and Billy McLeod combined with great goaltending by the Coyotes Nicky Juffermans and the Plattsville netminder saw the period end up with no goals being scored.

The back and forth and strong play continued in the third and as the period wound down the Coyotes desperately fought for the tying goal with strong forechecking by Eric Aldersey and the rest of the forwards.  With the goaltender pulled for an extra attacker the Coyotes held the play in the Plattsville zone and Justin Gautreau got the puck to the point for a hard shot on net by Carter Luoma.  Going to the net, Brendan Scott potted a juicy rebound to tie the game with only 22 seconds left on the clock to the joy of the Coyote fans in attendance.

In game number two the Coyotes faced the West Lincoln Wrath after a brief break for a quick meal.  The first period ended scoreless with strong defensive play by both teams.  The Coyotes opened the scoring early in the second after Hayden Schepers put one past the Wrath goalie with assists from Cole Findlay and Dillon Jenkins. The West Lincoln team dug deep and tied the game shortly after the Coyote goal and then scored 2 unanswered goals in the third to take the game 3 - 1.

Since this was a one day tournament the math began to determine where the Coyotes would play next.  The points were tight and the Coyotes ended up playing for the C Division Championship in a rematch against the Plattsville Rage.

Playing their third game in 6 hours the Coyotes would certainly have to overcome some tired legs to come back with some hardware.  The Coyotes opened the scoring early with Cole Findlay potting his own rebound with assists from Gautreau and Jenkins less than 2 minutes into the game.  Plattsville came back with two goals of their own before the end of the first to take the lead.

The Coyotes dug deep in the second and utilizing good team work and passing to move the puck against a very tired Plattsville team to score 3 goals in the second.  The first goal was a beautiful one timer by Josh Lemcke from a great pass by Josh Rossi.  Brendan Scott scored on a great individual effort outskating the Plattsville defense down the wing to put the Coyotes ahead.  Tyler Scott scored an insurance goal in the last minute of the second assisted by Brendan Scott and Luoma.

Plattsville showed their spirit by getting back to within one 14 seconds into the third.  But the Coyotes were a determined bunch and held them off and Tyler Scott added another goal to ice the game for the Coyotes and the Championship honours.  Since the opposing team was at the same hotel it also gave them bragging rights in the hotel pool.

Following the game the team enjoyed a great dinner with extra special treatment from the Pizza Hut beside the hotel in Cobourg and more swimming afterwards at the hotel pool.  A great time was had by all and the team is getting geared up for the playoffs starting very soon!
