The Gary Edgecombe CA PeeWee Rep
Coyotes continued their OMHA winning ways with a victory over Oro in
five games, advancing to the PeeWee B Semi-Finals. Four teams are
left in the hunt: Kincardine, Tavistock, Ennismore, and Elmvale. The
Coyotes have home-ice advantage, and will face the Ennismore Eagles
starting this weekend.

Fresh from the “sin bin”, Jack
Sneddon slaps the game winning goal through the Oro goalie in
game five.
On Friday, February 15, the Coyotes hosted the Oro Thunder for game three. With one player out, the Coyotes were happy to have AP Carson Currie to help out. The game was deadlocked 2-2 in regulation time, but a bad Elmvale change led to an early goal in overtime for Oro.
Being under the threat of elimination in game four, on Tuesday, February 19, the Coyotes dug deep. The defensemen and forechecking forwards shut down the Oro snipers and ended regulation time 1-1 with a pretty Jacob Partridge goal. A few minutes into overtime, defenseman Colin Kitching carried the puck end to end and scored, causing another game five showdown for the Elmvale Coyotes.
On a snowy Friday night, February 22, the boys and their loyal supporters drove to Oro for game five. AP goaltender, William McDowell, spent the first five minutes in net for the Coyotes while Brody Read did some last minute equipment fixing. Robert McLaughlin opened the scoring, putting Elmvale up by one. Oro responded quickly, and the goaltenders took over. Mid way through the third, 20 seconds after being freed from the penalty box, feisty Jack Sneddon slapped a hard shot that squeaked through the Oro goalie's five-hole. The Coyotes played the final few minutes short-handed, but with some solid crease-clearing checks, the Coyotes ran out the clock and rejoiced with a 2-1 victory.
This is the first time many of the Coyote players have made it this far in OMHA playoffs. Their opponent, the Ennismore Eagles, made it to the finals last year. Back in October, while playing in the Stirling tournament, the Coyotes played the Eagles twice. In the round robin, the Eagles beat the Coyotes 3-0. The Coyotes made the playoffs as the wildcard team, and went on to face the Eagles in the final. Three periods ended in a 0-0 tie. In overtime the Eagles got one past Coyote Brody Read, the game MVP. The coaching staff is confident the Coyote team that faced the Eagles back in October, is much stronger and much more experienced now. They have survived adversity and have come together with a desire to keep winning.
As a clarification for last week's article, the father responsible for having me ejected from the Dundalk game was from Dundalk. It was not mild mannered Dean Robertson. The Springwater News Editor assures me a Press Pass is on the way.
