PeeWee Rep OMHA Playoff Run Ends in Ennismore
The Gary Edgecombe CA PeeWee Rep Coyotes fought hard, but lost their OMHA Semi-final series to the talented Ennismore Eagles. In four games, only seven goals were scored, possibly setting a new low score record for an OMHA series.

Game one in Elmvale ended in a 1-0 Coyote loss, but the low score for the Eagles showed that the Coyote defense and goaltending could give the team a chance. Game two in Ennismore fulfilled a promise made to the boys – that making the semi-finals would mean a bus trip. Team Manager, Darrin Robertson came through with not just any bus, but the Barrie Colts and Baycats bus. The game ended 2-1 for Ennismore, but the Coyotes had learned that the Eagles could be scored on. A shot from the point, and some physical work in front of the net by Derek O'Neill made it possible.

Game three, back in Elmvale, put the Coyotes in a similar position – backs against the wall. They had to win, and win they did. Aiden Ritchie's lone goal in the second proved to be enough, and the Coyotes won 1-0. Kent Fay, the Elmvale Friday Night announcer, declared the three stars to be the defensive pairing of Ben Dietrich and Collin Kitching, and the remarkable goaltender, Brody Read.

Game four saw the boys on another bus, this time sporting Gryphon decals from the University of Guelph. As with the three previous games, strong defensive play prevailed at both ends. Ennismore capitalized on a power play late in the first and scored. Periods two and three saw wave after wave of attacks on both nets, but neither goaltender would concede. With less than 30 seconds left, and the Elmvale goalie on the bench, an Ennismore clearing shot from their own end found the net, sealing the deal. The Coyotes lost 2-0, and the series was over.

The series ended with handshakes on the ice and in the lobby. The Ennismore fans, much like the Elmvale fans, were friendly and appreciative of respectful hard-working players. The Coyote team walked out of the Ennismore rink to the applause of the Ennismore parents. Ennismore will play in the finals against either Kincardine or Tavistock.

The Coyotes came a long way – from 7th place in regular season, to knocking off the 2nd and 4th place teams to advance to the semi-finals. In the process they came together as a team with a common goal. There were some long faces after game four, but the entire team can hold their heads high. They've shown that that they are one of the four best teams in Ontario's B OMHA.

The season is not over yet. The team squeezed in six Georgian Bay playoff games during their OMHA run, and now sit second with only one loss. They will play for the Georgian Bay Pool B Championship against Midland in a three game series. They will end their season at home playing in the Maple Syrup tournament at the end of March.
