Bantam AE Open Up Playoffs With 2 Wins
On Jan. 12th, the Elmvale Home Building Centre Bantam AE Team opened up their OMHA playoffs against their rivals, the Midland Centennials. These two teams have played several close games all year and this being the first playoff game, another fierce battle was to be expected.  Midway through the first period, Aidan McKinstry opened the scoring by firing a loose puck past the Midland netminder, with the assist going to Nathaniel Charman.

Just 2 minutes later, Andrew Sommervill put Elmvale up 2-0 when he found the back of the net with a quick wrist shot.  Both teams continued to battle hard through the end of the first period and most of the second.

Late in the second Sommervill would get his second on a pass from Josh Tapscott, extending the Coyotes lead to 3-0.  With just a few minutes left in the second Midland would get on the board on the powerplay and make the score 3-1 for the Coyotes.  Just 30 seconds later the Coyotes answered back when Noah Bouzis scored with assists going to Thomas Maw and Alex Sweeney, restoring Elmvale’s 3 goal lead. Jason Flury would add another before the period ended on a nice feed from Charman.  Taking a 5-1 lead to the intermission Elmvale was only 15 minutes of hockey away from their first playoff win.

10 seconds into the third Midland would score shorthanded when a long shot found its way past Elmvale netminder Tristen Chiasson making the score 5-2 Elmvale.  Late in the 3rd, Sweeney would get his first from Bouzis.  With less than a minute left in the game, Charman extended the Elmvale lead to 7-2 on a perfect feed from Maw. Final score was 7-2 for the Coyotes putting them up 1 game to 0 in this best of 5 playoff series.

Game 2 of 5 had the Elmvale Home Building Centre Bantam AE Team at home on Sunday, Jan. 13th, looking to take another win from their rivals, the Midland Centennials. The first period was end to end action with both teams exchanging many quality scoring chances all of which were turned away by Elmvale goaltender Ryan Dauphin and the Midland netminder.  Score after the 1st period 0-0. 

Early in the 2nd, Jason Flury found the back of the net after taking a great pass from Thomas Maw putting the Coyotes up 1-0.  Elmvale would make the score 2-0 when Josh Tapscott would finish off a play started by Flury. Just a minute later Flury, would get his 3rd point of the game when he knocked in a rebound from Alex Sweeney.  With seconds left in the 2nd period, Midland would score on the powerplay making the score 3-1 Coyotes going into the 3rd. 

Early in the 3rd period Flury would get the hat trick when Thomas Maw fed him a perfect pass in the high slot, putting Elmvale up 4-1.  Late in the period Elmvale goaltender Dauphin got his name on the scoresheet when he fed Thomas Maw for his first of the series. Final score Elmvale Coyotes 5 Midland Centennials 1. 

The Elmvale Home Building Centre Bantam AE Coyotes now lead the best of 5 series 2 games to 0 and will be looking to take the series when they travel to Midland on the 19th to face the Centennials at 4:25 pm.  Come on out and support the team as they try to advance in this first round of OMHA playdowns.
