HAPAMP Bantam Rep Coyotes Finish On Top In Port Dover
This past weekend the Elmvale Bantam Rep team traveled to Port Dover for our first tournament of the season. The first game was on Friday afternoon and saw the Coyotes face the Lincoln Blades. It didn’t take long for our boys to begin showing the competition what Elmvale is made of.

Less than 2 minutes into the 1st period the Coyotes lit the lamp for the first time on a goal by assistant captain Evan Marlowe. From that moment on the Coyotes had a hunger for success and showed no signs of slowing down. Elmvale dominated the first game, winning the game by a score of 7-2 and winning each period in the process. The boys showed their discipline and class as well; skating to a hard fought yet penalty free game. Goals were scored by Zach Maclean (2), Evan Marlowe, Nevin King, Owen King, Jake Lalonde, and Colby Jonkman. Assists going to Andrew Priest (2), Evan Marlowe (3), Owen King, Tye King, Troy Bellisle, and Zach Maclean. Elmvale’s 2nd game was an early 8am start against Blenheim. After a slow start, the boys eventually found their legs after a goal from Zach Maclean gave us a 1-0 lead. Blenheim would equal the score soon after to tie the period. Elmvale and Blenheim each scored 2 more goals in the second period, setting the stage for an exciting 3rd period with the game tied 3-3. Less than 30 seconds into the 3rd, the Coyotes continued to prove why we were the team to beat as Zach Maclean scored his 3rd goal of the game to complete a hat-trick. Ian Millar followed that up with a goal less than a minute later and suddenly Elmvale found itself with a 2 goal lead for the first time in the game. Soon after that however, the boys faced their first test of adversity as leading goal scorer Zach Maclean was called on a questionable checking from behind hit that removed him from the remainder of this game and the next. Elmvale didn’t get down though and the 2 teams each traded one more goal in the 3rd to make it a 6-4 finish with the Coyotes as the victor. Goals were scored by Zach Maclean (3), Troy Bellisle, Ian Millar, and Colby Jonkman. Assists going to Tye King, Nevin King, Owen King, Andrew Priest (2), Evan Marlowe, and Colby Jonkman. Goaltender Kaiden Maw was incredible as always, making over 20 saves to secure the victory. The 3rd and final round robin game would see the Coyotes clash with the home team Port Dover Pirates, with a championship final berth on the line. Elmvale came out hard playing inspired hockey in the absence of sniper Zach Maclean. The boys scored the first goal of the game for the 3rd straight match, on a nice finish from Cameron Hill. Port Dover scored to tie the game with 2 seconds left in the 1st period. The 2nd period was all Elmvale as we were able to put 2 more goals on the board and take a 3-1 lead into the 3rd. Port Dover wasn’t willing to give up in front of the home crowd, scoring less than 1 minute into the 3rd to cut the lead to 1. Unfortunately for Port Dover, however, they were up against goalie Kaiden Maw who shut the door the rest of the way. Elmvale added one late marker to win the game 4-2 and punch our ticket to the tournament finals! Goals scored by Cameron Hill, Troy Bellisle, Evan Marlowe, and Jake Lalonde. Assists going to Nevin King (2), Evan Marlowe, Troy Bellisle, Ian Millar, Cameron Hill, Colby Jonkman, and Tye King. After the round robin the Coyotes were the #1 ranked team in the tournament, finishing 1st in total points, goal differential, and lowest penalty minutes. The championship game was a 3:30 afternoon start, and would see the Elmvale Coyotes take on the Listowell Cyclones. The game proved to be a back and forth battle full of close chances, hard hits, and great saves. The goaltending was something to be seen as the game went into the 3rd period deadlocked at 0-0. It took until almost 6 minutes into the final frame before Listowell broke the tie on a bad bounce resulting in a goal. It was the first time in the tournament that Elmvale was behind. The boys stayed positive and battled hard and responded with a highlight reel goal from a returning Zach Maclean on a beautiful pass from Troy Bellisle. The rest of the 3rd period proved to be much of the same goaltending battle as the first 2 periods and the 3rd period ended in a 1-1 tie sending the game to overtime. The next goal would decide the tournament, and our boys wanted it. Listowell had the first chance in overtime, but Kaiden Maw made an excellent save on a breakaway to keep the Coyotes in the game. Then with 1:42 left in overtime, Elmvale found it’s hero as Owen King banged in a rebound to clinch the Championship. Assists going to Andrew Priest and Nevin King. Winning the trophy was an appropriate ending to an incredible weekend for the Elmvale Coyotes players, coaches, and fans. The boys represented Elmvale well and did the town proud with hard work and excellent play. The Bantam Rep Coyotes get back to their regular season play next Sunday at home against Midland at 6:55pm. With a record of 4-2 so far, the boys look to carry the momentum from the tournament over and continue to dominate the opposition. Well done boys!
