Friday night we arrived in Delhi to meet Ayr in our first
match. It was a
slow start for our team with our imported Goalie from
Coldwater Michael
Doyle saving our bacon. A very tough and physical game.
We tied it up in the
first period with a goal from Liam Edward assisted by
Cameron Johnston. With
both teams pressing Elmvale finally launched the go ahead
goal with Ethan
Schmidt firing one in with an assist from Liam Edwards
and Nicholas Foster.
2-1 for Elmvale.
Saturdays challenger was Norwich Nighthawks. The Coyotes were firing on all cylinders with great passing evident. Again our goalie Michael Doyle was great with a shut out. Cameron Johnston started us off with an unassisted goal and then another. Ethan Schmidt with 2 goals and Jamie Giffen scoring as well as 2 assists. Danny Nahuis and Tori Spence also awarded assists. A very disciplined game with only 1 penalty for Elmvale. 5-0 for Elmvale.
Sundays First Game was against Port Dover 2. Jamie Giffen was on fire with 3 Goals, also scoring was Robert Bowen, Sam Priest, Liam Edwards and Ethan Schmidt. 3 assists from Ethan Schmidt, 2 from Cameron Johnston, and 1 assist for Jacob Richards and Brett Lingenfelter. 7-3 for Elmvale.
In the Semi Finals we met Paris. It was a hard fought game. Ethan Schmidt started us of with just over 1 minute left in the first period to tie up the game. Assisted by Nic Edwards and Robert Bowen. Two Goals were scored by Paris in the second period. Elmvale answered back with 3 of their own. Jamie Giffen with 2 and Jacob Richard with a goal. Assists were to Colin Best, Brett Lingenfelter, Liam Edwards and Jacob Richards. In the third Period Cameron Johnston scored giving the Elmvale Coyotes some breathing room. Assisted by Jamie Giffen and and Colin Best. The Paris team pressed but our defense and Goalie were able to hold them with no goals for Paris in the third period. 5-3 win for Elmvale.
The final Game Elmvale Coyotes vs Port Dover 1. What a nail biter! Port Dover up 2 goals going into the third period. Cameron Johnston half way through the third period put it in the net to make it a 2-1 game. Assisted by Liam Edwards and Brett Lingenfelter. The pressure was on and Jamie Giffen answered with Jacob Richards picking up an assist, with just 30 seconds left in the third period putting us into overtime and keeping us in the game. It was quite a ride! In the overtime period Robert Bowen put in the winning goal assisted by Sam Priest and Tori Spence.
The team this year has played with great discipline, few penalties and great attendance. A great camaraderie is with the team led by a very young coaching staff. Three of our coaches have no children on the team however volunteer their time.
