Who says a Coyote can't take down a Bear?
Tyke Select travelled to the barn in Bracebridge last Thursday for a game against the South Muskoka Bears Select team.
With a balanced effort and some team chemistry starting to show, the Coyotes give the Bears their first loss in exhibition play.
The kids came out quick taking an early 1-0 lead with a goal by Cameron but weren't able to hold it with the Bears coming right back with 2 of their own to lead 2-1 after the first period. Strong defense by the pairings of Ben and Jake and Elijah and Jaxon shut the Bears offence down in the second. Goals by Isaac and Luke had us up 3-2 going into the final frame.
2 early goals in the third by Cameron and Elijah gave us a nice cushion but the Bears weren't about to give up. The Bears would cut the deficit to 1 with 2 late goals, but the Coyotes would hang on for the 5-4 victory.
Stellar net minding by Gavin and hard work from all the kids secured the win. Trent and Charlie finished with 2 assists each. Contributing with one assist each were Julia, Luke, Nick, Isaac and Jaxon. Great work guys!
Congratulations to Cameron with 2 goals and strong 2-way play earning him player of the game. Honorable mention to Trent and Julia also with a great game. Missing on the ice but cheering from the stands was Michael out with a knee injury. We all wish him a speedy recovery.
