Tyke Select Enters March Break Terriers Tournament
Monday and Tuesday of March Break Tyke Select traveled to Orillia for a 9 team tournament and came out champs!

Tyke Select entered their second tournament of the year during March Break and played some amazing hockey posting 3 shutouts in five games to take the championship.

Game #1  was a regular season rematch vs the South Muskoka Bears.  Two evenly matched teams made for a close game with the Coyotes up 3-1 at the end of the second, but like games past Elmvale took it up a notch with 6 goals in the 3rd period to take it 9-3. Nikolas took the Player of The Game puck posting 2 goals and 2 assists.

Games 2 and 3 each vs the Peterborough Petes were lopsided affairs with the Pete's clearly being outmatched.  Elmvale took 2 straight with Elijah recording 2 straight shutouts making great saves when he had to.  Luke with 4 goals and 3 assists kept the pressure on the Petes in both matches. Trenton and Julia worked hard these 2 games with 5 points each earning Player of The Game awards.  Jake and Charlie also played their best games of the season each posting a goal and 3 assists!!  Great job!!

Semifinal game vs Meadowvale Hawks would be a close affair as both teams knew a win would guarantee a 5th and final game.  Meadowvale opened the scoring early and remained on top until 39 seconds left in the first when Trenton tied the game.  A quick start to the second period saw the Coyotes taking a 2-1 lead with a goal from Gavin.  With over 23 minutes of hockey left both teams exchanged chances.  With great defensive play not only in this game but all the games by Jaxon, Ben and Cameron the Hawks couldn't get the equalizer and Elmvale earned a spot in the final with the 2-1 victory.  Isaac received the Player of the Game award working hard at both ends and assisting on both goals.

The final match against the also undefeated Stoney Creek would be a close battle.  A team game would bring the championship to Elmvale with a strong game of offence, defence and goaltending.  Luke opened the scoring 4 minutes in and Elmvale held the lead the rest of the way eventually taking the final 2-0.

What a great couple of days of hockey with all the kids playing well and having fun.  In 5 games every player had at least 2 points and 8 of the 11 skaters had 2 or more goals.  Keep an eye on the trophy case at the arena to have a look at the hardware the kids brought home to the den.  Great work everyone!
