Tyke 3 in Tillsonburg
On Jan 10 the Elmvale Coyotes Tyke 3 packed their bags and headed west down the 401 to Tillsonburg for their first tournament of the season.  The team faced off at 1pm on Saturday against the home team Tillsonburg White.  The two teams battled back and fourth in a tight first period.  Tillsonburg fighting to stay alive in the tournament and the Coyotes fighting off some away from home nerves.  The kids found their stride potting 8 goals for an 8-2 win.

With the win the team knew that we would be playing Sunday as that was Tillsonburgs second lost knocking them out of the tournament.  With the team only having a 1 hour break, they were back on the ice at 3 pm to face the Dorchester Bruins.  The team knew they were in for a battle when they took the ice as the high paced Bruins seemed to connect on every opportunity.  But the Coyotes with a short bench fought back and made it a 4-3 Bruins lead after 2 periods.  The third period saw the Bruins pull away as the Coyotes ran out of gas drawing a penalty and giving up a couple of short handed goals.  The result a 8-4 loss.

After a team pep talk the team headed back to the motel for some swimming, dinner and some pillow bowling.  With an early game on Sunday Coach James and the staff had an early curfew checking each player was in bed with teeth brushed by 9 pm. Sunday morning brought an early checkout as the team was back on the ice at 9 am to face Belmont.  The two teams were evenly matched as end to end hockey saw the score 0-0 still after 2 period.  The fans just knew that this was going to be close game as chances from both sides were turned away.  With roughly 3 minutes left Belmont slipped one under pads with a player sitting on the doorstep to poke it in.  The final would be 1-0  sending our team home.  Leaving the arena, players and parents from the opposition had commented on how that was the best game that they had played and how the Coyotes represented Elmvale very well.

The coaching staff had gone with the same lineup for the duration of the tournament.  Forwards: Chase S, Cooper M, Garret F, Josh P, Nick J, Riley J.  Defence: Hannah S, Bradford E, Broden C.  Goaltender: Cole KG.  This team left it all on the ice and should be proud on how well they played by never giving up and wearing their hearts on their sleeves.

The team is back on the ice Sat Jan 18 to face Tyke 4 at 1pm.  Great Job Team!
