Early Tournament for Dr D's Mighty Molars
The Elmvale Coyotes Novice LL team traveled all the way to Hensall for a tournament that the BCH organization was hosting.  The choice for an early tournament was decided by the coaching to allow the players and parents get to know each other and get some team bonding in.  We stayed in Grand Bend and this proved to be just what we needed. The players really seemed to gel and bond and are really coming together as a solid unit, providing some very entertaining hockey for all spectators.

Our first game was a new experience for the kids as it was a 9pm start, on the Friday night against Lambton Shores.  As this is past the normal bed time of the majority of the players it was a challenge.  It was great to the see the excitement on the faces of the players who have never played in a tournament.  Tanner Playne, Avery Murphy, Ty Williams and Raffi Febrarro all came ready to play and enjoy the full experiences of an over night tournament.  Brayson Fay proved to the team it doesn't matter what time of day he plays as he was able to turn every shot he faced.  Brayson not only earned his first shut out of the year, but also received the Hustle award for the game as he had to stop close to 10 breakaways on route to the 2-0 Victory.  It was a hard fought battle from the kids, and they earned the win with goals from Nikolas Schepers and Jackson Fee.

After a good nights sleep at the resort, we made our way back to the rink for 10 am game against a hungry St. George.  This was a fantastic game played by both teams which was quite the goaltender battle as Brayson had another solid game.  Unfortunately we came out on the losing end of a hard fought game which showed the true heart and grit this team has.  Kyle Towns was the lone goal scorer as we fell 2-1, unable to bury a tying goal past a strong St George tender.  Kyle's two way play and hard work earned him the Hustle award for this game. Nathan Scruton and Hayden King played a great game on defence, not only jumping into the play and making some great rushes but getting back into position and playing strong defence.

Our third and final round robin game was at 5 pm that afternoon against Goderich.  With all the swimming and games of "man hunt" between games the coaching staff was expecting a tired group of players, but were quickly proven wrong. All the kids dug deep and showed they wanted to win.  They quickly went out to a 3-0 lead with goals from Benjamin Doupe, Nikolas and Kyle. The team played great defence from there on in.  Ollie Nell and Wesley Nelson are proving themselves as strong defensemen that hold the line well and make things difficult for the opposition to get scoring chances.  Goderich was able to get a couple goals past Brayson, but Kyle added his second of the game to give us some breathing room and they were able to hold on for a 4-2 victory.  Joshua Pring and Noah Barber both had fantastic tournaments and helped create a number of scoring chances as they develop themselves into power forwards.  This hard work and effort earned Noah the Hustle award.

Due to the set up of the tournament and having 5 teams in each pool we were unable to secure a spot in one of the championship games.  We ended up tied for second in our pool with the 2-1 record but unfortunately the team we were tied with was the St George team who had beat us and moved on due to the head to head win. Overall, the coaching staff and parents were all very proud of each and every one of our players.  They worked hard the entire tournament.  The progress these players have made already is nothing short of amazing.  The work ethic is top notch and every player always comes off the ice with a smile on their face and are having a blast.

Come out and cheer on these players as they have their first two home games coming up.  November 2 they play Midland 1 at 3:20 pm, as Midland tries to get revenge after losing to Elmvale 4-2 earlier in the season.  November 3, Oro comes to town for 2:25 pm puck drop in The Den.
