Hapamp Coyotes Win Cody Hodgson Fall Classic
The Hapamp Bantam Rep Coyotes made the trip to Haliburton on the weekend of Oct 26th and 27th to take part in the Cody Hodgson Fall Classic Tournament.  In the first round robin game, the Coyotes would take on the Mariposa Lightning.  In the first period, the teams exchanged chances but neither team would score.  Midway through the second, Braeden Allen moved the puck to Andrew Priest who found a wide open Owen King. Owen promptly fired a wrist shot past the Lightning goalie, giving the Hapamp Bantam Coyotes a 1-0 lead.

Just 20 seconds into the third, Derek Sweeney would chip the puck past a pinching Mariposa defenseman to Matt Clarke who then skated it into the Lightning end and rocketed a snapshot into the Mariposa net.  With less than a minute left in game, and the Lightning team pressing hard with their net empty, Owen King found a loose puck and lobbed it the length of the ice into the empty net making the final 3-0.

Game #2 had the Elmvale Coyotes playing the Lindsay Muskies.  With both teams winning their first game, this game would be a decisive game in determining which team would make the semi final round.  This game was a very close battle and though Elmvale held the lead twice, neither time seemed to last very long as the Muskies were always quick to respond.  Troy Bellisle and Matt Clarke had the markers for the Coyotes, with assists going to Nevin King, Jake Lalonde, Derek Sweeney and Jordan Agar. With the game tied 2-2, the Lindsay Muskies took a late penalty and with just 5 seconds left in the game, Lalonde scored the game winner with Agar assisting.

After a long day of hockey, the Coyotes finally would get to play their final round robin game against the Markham Waxers.  Right from the drop of the puck, the Hapamp Bantam Rep Coyotes showed what they are capable of and totally controlled the play. Skating to an 8-0 victory and clinching top spot in their division.  Goal scorers were Nevin King (2G,1A), Alex Sweeney (1G),Jordan Agar (2G,1A),Troy Bellisle (1G,1A), Brock KleinGebbinck (1G), Derek Sweeney (1G,2A), Tye King (2A), Matt Clarke (2A), Owen King (1A) and Charlie Flieger (1A).

Early Sunday morning, the Coyotes would play their semi final game against the Lorne Park Ojibawa.  This game was a fast paced, hard hitting match that didn’t produce many scoring opportunities for either team.  Through 2 periods of the play, the the game had yet to produce a goal.  Midway through the 3rd period, Alex Sweeney would finish off a great pass from Matt Clarke with an additional assist going to Nevin King.  With time running out, the Elmvale team used the power play to extend their lead to 2 when Jordan Agar tipped a Matt Clarke shot into the net, with an added assist to Derek Sweeney.  With only a minute left in the game, the Ojibawa would make it close, but 2 goals would be enough to send the Hapamp Bantam Rep team to the finals.

The Coyotes had little waiting around to do before finding out who their opponent would be in the final, and after a little R & R the boys were ready to play for the championship.  The final game had the Coyotes playing the host team, the Highland Storm, who had yet to surrender a goal in the tournament.   The Coyotes jumped out to an early lead when Jordan Agar took a pass form Nevin King and made the score 1-0.  In the second, Brock KleinGebbinck and Owen King would score just 7 seconds apart with assists going to Owen King, Andrew Priest, and Tye King.  With a 3-0 lead the game seemed to be in hand, but it didn’t take long for the Storm to battle back and make the score 3-2.  Late in the period, Nevin King intercepted a pass and blasted a shot past the Storm netminder, increasing the Coyote lead to 2.  Midway through the 3rd, Nevin King would snipe his second of the game and the Elmvale team would go on to take the game and championship by a score of 5-3.  Kaiden Maw provided the Coyotes with stellar goaltending all weekend, giving up only 6 goals in five games and seeing over 75 shots. The defense pairings of Charlie Flieger and Tye King, Colin Kitching and Aidan McKinstry, and Jake Lalonde and Braeden Allen were instrumental in clearing out all opponents from around the Coyotes net.

The Hapamp Bantam Rep Coyotes will be looking to build on their success when they return home Tuesday, Oct. 29th, to face the Shelburne Wolves at the Elmvale arena at 8:40pm.
