The Elmvale Tim Horton's Tyke #4 squad sponsored by the Orr Lake Golf Course recently traveled to Peterborough to participate in the "Tyke Showdown" tournament. The kids played 3 very exciting games with two of the games being veritable shootouts with the teams combining for 9 and 14 goals respectively. The other game was easily the most exciting game of the season, the kids played to a 3-3 tie against the Peterborough Tyke 1 squad, with a beauty goal being scored with a mere 13 seconds remaining to earn the Coyotes the tie.
The team had a successful weekend with 2 wins and a tie, the forwards corps consisting of Brodie Ritchie, Braxton Westcott, Cristan Zanetti, Chase Champion, Megahn Ritchie, Emerson Golka, Jack Crooker and Hayden Hall used some dynamic passing and intense skating skill to push the pace up front all weekend. The stalwart defensive corps consisting Carter Bylow, Hudson King, Allison Birch, Alex Manzone and Foster McClung played an efficient style of shut down defense from buzzer to buzzer. It should also be mentioned that Hudson, Allison and Alex shared the goal tending duties and all three played the position exceptionally well.
As we all know there's much more to a travel tournament then just the hockey, with a light schedule at the rink the kids took full advantage away from the rink spending 4 hours in the pool Saturday afternoon alone, they were able to squeeze in a pizza party with the Tyke #2 squad which had also made the trek to Peterborough, and at last count the the mini stick extravaganza was a 67-67 tie, with one goal still under review due to goaltender interference. All in all, it was a successful weekend for everybody involved, I'd like to extend a big thanks to the dedicated parents and an even bigger thanks to the staff Brad Ritchie, Pamela St. Amant and most notably Angela Birch for keeping us organized.
