Tournament Fun
Development in hockey is everything.  Of course the love of the game is first, because let’s be real, if you don’t love hockey then why would you be playing it?  Every child on this team has shown just how valuable they are.  Whether it is a power winger, a determined center man, an agile defense man or the brick wall of the goaltender, each child brings something that is unmistakable to the Atom Rep Team.

The boys had their first tournament of the season and to say they were pumped is a bit of an understatement.  We were off to Simcoe, to face some very worthy opponents, but these boys knew that it was their job to represent Elmvale…and represent they did.  They played an impressive 5 games in total.  We won 3, tied 1 and lost in the semi’s to a well-oiled team.  Our boys proved to be an impressive force, going against teams that were bigger and had a longer bench then them.  The Player of the games was as follows:  Game #1 – Braxton, Game #2 – Spencer, Game #3 – Evan, Game #4 – Garrett and Game #5 – Brody.

All the boys went above and beyond to show these teams that they were not going to be pushed around.  Braxton was an incredible asset to the team.  Often keeping the boys in the game and reminding them not to give up.  No matter the situation, Braxton managed to keep his head clear and made some saves, that even the scouts for the NHL, would have been drooling over.  I think the most impressive thing about that weekend, was seeing the boys not give up.  I know I have talked about the relentless determination these boys show, but it is simply because it is true.  Now don’t get me wrong… they have their moments.  Like any team, they can’t be perfect and sometimes the wheels come off the wagon.  But what sticks out the most is how they rally back from it.  The kids feed off each other’s energy.  Maybe it is Spencer’s passing, Evan’s shot, Garrett’s no quit attitude or Brody’s ability to rub out a player.  One thing is certain, these boys play for the love of the game.

We’ve had a few more games since the tournament that have proved to be part of the team’s learning curve.  Boys have switched up spots. The Coaches trying to find the perfect fit, to make them the most successful they can be.  The thing about trying something new is you will never know how it works until you do it.  Kids have this funny way of surprising you and themselves. By giving them an opportunity it allows them to discover something new about themselves too.  No position on this team is any more important than another.  Unless you ask the Coaches… they think they are pretty important. LOL .  But seriously, this is a team sport and these boys know it.  They celebrate every goal like they scored it themselves.  The goofing around, the teasing, the encouragement and mostly the manly hugs that are witnessed by all, show how much these boys have bonded.  We as parents should feel pretty lucky to be on a team filled with such amazing kids.

As always, we thank the Elmvale and District Lions Club for their continued support.
