Hardship Acres Landscaping Inc. U15 Bantam Team Finalists at Bob Black Memorial
Our U15 Elmvale Coyote Bantam Rep team sponsored this year by Hardship Acres Landscaping Inc. had a good weekend of hockey only to lose in the Finals of this past weekends Oshawa Tournament.

Fridays action started off with a hard fought battle with the New Hamburg Huskies.  The Elmvale team controlled most of the game but found themselves tied 2-2 early in the third.  Josh Jardine and Garrett Fay found the scoresheet early in the first before Cooper Mogridge regained the lead assisted by Ethan Palmer and Nick JohnstonNick Johnston was able to score an insurance goal assisted by Will Way and Emery Stephens before Noah Johnston iced it with a beauty to make the final 5-2 Elmvale.

Friday night saw 46 of the Coyote faithful head down to the Oshawa Generals game to watch a barn burner with Oshawa losing 8-7 in a shoot out.  Elmvale Coyote nation can be proud of how the players represented at this event.

Obviously the boys were paying attention to all the goal scoring at the OHL game as they put on a scoring clinic on Saturday morning defeating the Home Town Durham Crusaders 8-0.  This game was highlighted by our goalie Nolan Krause not only getting a shut out but as the boys say an "Apple" on a beauty goal.  Other highlights included stalwart defensemen Preston Fay and Mitch Hales recording their first goals of the season. Evan Krikorian found the net for a goal and an assist while playing in an unfamiliar Defense position.  As is the strength with this team every player scored at least one point with Ethan Palmer and Josh Jardine leading the way with 3 each.

Game 3 of the Round robin proved to be the biggest test facing a strong Pelham Panthers BB squad.  Our Coyotes game out hard early with a first period goal by Noah Johnston assisted by G. Fay and Jacob Holt.  The boys found themselves down 2-1 after the first after a couple of late Pelham goals.  The two teams battle neck and neck with some hard hitting fast paced action in the second but neither team could score.  Elmvale didn't have much left in the third and Pelham score again and then added an empty net goal to make the final 4-1.  Nolan Krause was great in net again.

This lost put our Coyotes facing the New Castle Stars early on Sunday morning in the Semi Final.  This was a closely matched contest with both teams playing hard and neither goalie willing to be beaten in the first two periods.  Exceptionally strong play by first year defensemen Carter Bylow and Evan Buchanan were large reasons the Stars team was kept off the score board.
Our Elmvale Coyotes ran into some penalty trouble in the third with 3 'strange' penalties being called.  The teams penalty killing was strong all weekend thanks in part to forward Willem Kiernan.
Noah Johnston opened the scoring with a short handed goal assisted by G. Fay mid way through the third to give our Coyotes what looked like a ticket to the final.  But the Stars had other ideas scoring a goal with 73 seconds left to tie it.  As of late though this adversity did not phase this group of fine young men.  16 seconds later, off the presuming face off Garrett Fay scored on a beauty set up from Jacob Holt and Noah Johnston.  This late goal propelled our Coyote team into the Finals with a rematch against the Pelham Panthers.

Our Coyotes came out fired up for this one hoping to get revenge for an earlier defeat and win the Championship.
Neither team gave an inch as the first period ended up with no scoring.  Like the round robin game Elmvale scored first on the PP with a back door one timer goal by Will Way from a high light reel pass from Cooper Mogridge.  Mitch Hales also assisted on this beauty goal.  Again penalty trouble ran sacked the Coyotes with a 4 minute penalty and then another 2 while short handed.  Pelham took advantage and scored 2 late second period goals to take the lead.  Unfortunately the penalty trouble continued in the third with a few tough calls on our boys.  Pelham scored two more in the third before with our net empty Josh Jardine assisted by Noah Johnston made it a 4-2 final.
This group of 16 young men should be commended for how they represented our Association over the weekend.

Thanks to the young up and coming Coaching staff of Jake Bouzis, Jacob Fay and Andrew Priest and veteran Rick Hales for leading this group so far this season.

The U15 Rep team has started the OMHA playoffs with 2 big wins over the top two ranked teams in Georgian Bay and have 3 games this weekend.  Starting Friday night February 25 at 730pm.  Why not shake off the Covid Blues and head down to the arena to watch this team battle for an Georgian Bay Championship and a Birth into the All Ontario Championship.
