Maple Syrup Tournament Wrap Up
The 2013 edition of the EMHA Maple Syrup Tournament finished up late Sunday afternoon.  Thus concluding another season of minor hockey in Elmvale.

The tournament champions included BCH (Novice), Elmvale (Atom), and Parry Sound (Peewee).  While all Elmvale teams made it out of the preliminary round and into at least a semi final game.

The Novice Coyotes started off slow on Friday morning dropping their 1st game 4-2 to Bancroft.  Needing to win out, the Coyotes would win game #2 in overtime over the Goderich Sailors (3-2).  That win set up a do or die situation against Thorold.  Elmvale would again find themselves in an overtime situation, and would score a power play goal to vault themselves into the semi finals.  In the semi's the Coyotes fell to the eventual champions in BCH (7-3) thus ending their run at the tournament.

The Peewee Coyotes continued their hot streak from their lengthy playoff runs and would finish 1st in their pool, going 3-0, with wins over Goderich (2-1), Seaforth (5-2), and Acton (10-1).  In the semi finals Elmvale would be matched up against local foe Penetang.  Penetang was unable to handle the persistence of the Coyotes, and Elmvale would advance to the final with a 6-1 victory.  Elmvale's opponent in the final was Parry Sound.  Parry Sound was going in undefeated as well at 4-0, only giving up 2 goals total in the 4 games.  The final was close throughout but Parry Sound was able to open up a 2 goal lead mid way through the 3rd period.  Elmvale would score to make it a 1 goal game late in the 3rd but ran out of time and fell 3-2, but earned the silver medal for their performance.

The Atom Coyotes came in favoured to win.  And they didn't disappoint the home town crowd.  Elmvale would go 5-0 en route to their championship.  Jacob Sanderson earned tournament MVP honours posting a 5-0 record, recording 3 shut outs, and a 0.60 GAA.  Elmvale disposed of South Huron, Kincardine, and Ayr in the round robin portion of the tournament.  Elmvale would meet up against South Huron again in the semi final, and despite a little scare were able to pull away late and secure a berth in the final against Collingwood.  In the final the Coyotes and Blackhawks battled hard back and forth with no scoring until mid way through the 3rd period.  Nathan Robertson would score 2 goals in the last half of the 3rd period propelling the Coyotes to the 2-0 victory and championship.

So concludes another season of EMHA tournaments.  Enjoy your summer, and see you in the fall.
