Wildy Successful Skills Competition
60+ kids participated in front of a packed house on Friday evening in the Atom AE skills competition.

The kids were all extremely talented and put on a great show for those in attendance. Many thanks to Kent Fay of Diamond Head Sprinklers fame, along with Al & Cam Scott for their moderation of the festivities.

Player Shooting Accuracy

This was a new event this year, and it went well.  Max (Elmvale), & Bradley (Oro) narrowly missed out on the final with 5 points a piece.  The finalists were Hayden (Twin Centre), Randy (Coldwater), and Carter (Tavistock) each heading into the final with 6 points a piece.

In the final it was Hayden who took down the competition with 4 points.

Winner: Hayden (Twin Centre)

Goalie Shooting Accuracy

The goaltender competition was extremely close.  William (Essa), Tyler (Elmvale), Caleb (Coldwater), Ryan (Six Nations), Tyson (Midland), & Gavan (Lincoln) all finished just 1 goal from the final, scoring 2 on their 5 attempts. Tom (Tavistock), and Dawson (North Muskoka) punched their ticket to the final with 3 goals each.

The final saw Dawson take care of business with a perfect 4 for 4 to earn the trophy.

Winner: Dawson (North Muskoka)

Fastest Skater

This competition was dubbed 'Girls Night Out', as it was the young ladies time to shine.  Sarah (Tavistock), and Zoe (Midland) earned their spot in the finals with 17.67, and 17.57 times respectively in the qualifying round. These times were a half second better then any of the other competitors.

The final lived up to the billing as it was the closest race we've seen in this arena since Kent Fay was chased from the net in Juvenile after another substandard start in net.

In the end it was Sarah that narrowly edged Zoe to take home the title.

Winner: Sarah (Tavistock)

Puckhandling

In the preliminary round Brady (Tavistock) was the class of the field with a 24.06 time that was a full 3+ seconds faster than anybody else.  The second finalist was Nikola from (Lincoln) who was 0.09 seconds faster than Rhys (North Muskoka).

In the final an early miscue by heavy favourite Brady allowed Nikola the opportunity to shine.  And Nikola did just that...We haven't seen anybody shine like that here since Mike Kelly in the Juvenile All Ontario Championships.

Winner: Nikola (Lincoln)

Breakaway Challenge

One on One skills was on display for this one as it was player vs goalie for a chance in the finals.  Joey (Coldwater), Quwade (Six Nations), Cole (Listowel), Tanner (North Muskoka), and Luke (Tavistock) all scored multiple times in the preliminary rounds, and made their way into the sudden death final.

The final was short lived as in Round #1 Tanner was the only player able to penetrate the wall supplied by the amazing tenders for this event.  And that like backhand fake, forehand deke that proved to be the golden goal for Tanner.

Winner: Tanner (North Muskoka)
