Novice Mighty Molars Win 4th in a Row
Rookie Goaltender #1 Robbie B, improved his record to 4-0 back stopping the Molars to their fourth win in a row with an action packed 5-3 win over the visiting Stayner Cyclones.
With Stayner entering the Coyote Den with a strong 5-2 record and only 16 goals scored against, the coaching staff had the kids howling together in the change room before the game, showing that the efforts of all players working together generated more noise than the kids howling individually. The lesson paid off early when #17 Garreth S made the decision to pass to a wide open #15 Owen F, who easily found the back of the net only a minute and a half into the game.
Less than two minutes later the Garreth & Owen connection continued with Owen feeding a pass to Garreth to open a 2-0 lead. The strong support of the defence pairing of #8 Gillian S and #4 Kaiden R started the play when the puck was cleared away from the goal and up the boards.
#7 Owen C "showed em what we're made of" when he let a shot go from center ice that beat the Cyclones goalie midway through the second to make the score 3-0 Coyotes.
The Molars then ran into some penalty trouble and the hard work and drive of Stayner earned them their 1st goal. #9 Nolan S was all fired up after the Stayner goal, where with his great work ethic he cleared the puck out of our zone, which was picked up by Garreth who netted his second of the game only 23 seconds after the Cyclones goal.
Stayner not wanting to be down three goals going into the third period turned on the jets scoring at the 1:00 and :01 second times to end the period down by only one goal, 4-3.
18 seconds into the third period, Garreth again made a fantastic pass to Owen to restore a 2 goal lead.
The team shifted gears to defensive mode, where numerous attempted rushes and opportunities by Stayner were broken up well before Robbie needed to make a save. Back checking by #11 Cayden M, #10 Shayne O and defensive stops by #3 Danielle M and #14 Josh N limited Stayners chances of getting any closer than 5-3, including facing 6 Cyclones attackers when they pulled their goalie near the end of the game.
The Novice Molars are back on the ice this Wednesday against the Oro Thunder at the Coyote Den at 7:00 PM.
