McLaren Equipment Novices Having a Great Season!
Submitted By kfay on Thu 01 14, 16
Since early September, fourteen local 8 year old boys and girls have been practicing hard, having fun and winning hockey games representing our very own McLaren Equipment Elmvale Coyotes Novice Rep team.

The team coached by Jason Dorion just completed their Georgian Bay Regular Season with an impressive 15-3-2 record to finish a respectable second place overall.

Earlier in the season this young team travelled to Prince Edward County to compete against some different teams from the East.  The team didn’t disappoint the many fans that attended the tournament to cheer on our young Coyotes.

After winning their first four games the Novices took on a strong team from Simcoe and ended up on the short end to finish as Championship Finalist.

The team returned to Elmvale ready to get back to practicing hard, knowing even with all their successes they still had room for improvement.  And they did not disappoint, defeating the first place team from Midland 1-0 in an exciting game to temporarily take over first place.

The McLaren Equipment team also entered the local Silver Stick tournament in Wasaga and after the first four games again found themselves in the Tournament Finals against our new found rivals from Simcoe.  Unfortunately Simcoe again outplayed our Elmvale Coyotes to give our team their second Tournament Finalists award.  The second place finish resulted in an invitation to attend the International Silver Stick Finals in St. Clair Shores, Michigan.  The Novice Team accepted this invitation and will make the trek south to participate in this tournament from January 24-26.

As the excitement of playoffs builds with the 14 players and coaching staff the thought of competing for an OMHA Championship fuels the team to continue to practice hard and perfect their skating, passing and stick handling skills.  The McLaren Equipment Novice Rep team starts the OMHA playoffs against Penetang with game one having taken place last night.  Please come out to support these up and coming hockey players on their road to an OMHA Championship by checking out our EMHA website for upcoming game times.

The team will also compete against the top 6 teams in Georgian Bay on their way to vying for a Georgian Bay Minor Hockey League Novice A Championship.

The Elmvale Coyotes Novice Rep team is made up of high scoring, fast skating forwards, Jacob Holt, Leighton Therrien, Evan Mino, Bryce McLaren, Garrett Fay, Caleb Dorion, Ethan Palmer, Evan Buchanan and Jackson Clemens.  Our hardworking, shut down defence consists of Preston Fay, Braeden Begley, Cooper Mogridge and Cohen Smith.  Will Veenstra is our last line of defence, playing some stellar goal for our team.

Special thanks to McLaren Equipment for their continued support of Elmvale Minor Hockey.   And to all our parents and loyal supporters who bring the players to early morning practice and cheer the players on during games.

Thanks also to George Bagley, Michelle Dorion, Michelle Veenstra, Kevin Fay and Cullen Fay who round out Jason Dorions coaching staff. To all the Novice Rep players, remember to Play Hard, represent Elmvale with Pride and Good Sportsmanship and Have Fun over the next 3 months as you compete in the International Silver Stick, Georgian Bay and OMHA Playoffs and our own Maple Syrup Tournament.  It’s going to be a fun ride.

Go Coyotes Go!
