Elmvale Lions Club Atom Rep Showing Improvement
The Elmvale Lion’s Club Atom Rep’s season is underway, and the team is showing some signs of life.
The team got off to a rocky, 0-3 start to the regular season, with a shaky 7-2 loss to Parry Sound, a narrow 2-1 defeat at the hands of Stayner, and a 7-0 loss in which the Coyotes played tough against an extremely strong Midland squad.
But the Coyotes did not let a disappointing start bring them down, coming out with a good result at their first tournament, hosted by Georgian Shores. On Friday, the team eked out a tightly contested 1-0 win over Coldwater, a game that saw the Coyotes control the tempo. Though the team confidence was building, they fell just short in their second game vs eventual tournament winners, the Goderich Sailors, by a 2-0 score. The Coyotes played great team defence, but just couldn’t put the puck in the Goderich net. But Sunday morning, the shooters came out firing. The Coyotes scored on each of their first 3 shifts, en route to a 10-3 drubbing of Waterford. This victory landed them a spot in the Consolation Finals. Though they had lots of chances, the scoring touch left them, and they fell to Stayner by a score of 6-2.
The team is coming together, with solid defense from Jacob Martin, Mason Schepers, Darcy Fay, and Adam McElwain, great hustle from Nolan Maw, Josh Parnell, and Ryan Hall. Max Shaw, Sean Crooker, and Luke Sneddon have been putting the puck in the net, while Alex Wickett and Sam Dion have shown excellent play-making and puck handling skills. And who could forget our goalie, Ian Robertson, who in only his first year between the pipes has already logged a shutout in back-stopping the Coyotes to victory.
Special thanks to coaching staff for their positive attitude, support and enthusiasm. The players are having a blast!
