The U13 B Elmvale Lions Club Coyotes brought their season to a close on Monday March 17th, with a devastating loss in the OMHA qualifying region 5 finals against the South Muskoka Bears.
The scoreboard did not reflect the effort, skill, shots and amazing plays set up by the team. In game one of the series the Coyotes had a 3-1 lead going into the 3rd with goals scored by Oliver Van Loosen and Cameron Lalonde, unfortunately the Bears made a comeback and tied up the game in the final minutes of the third. The Bears took the OT win and the Coyotes headed to Bracebridge for a must win St. Patricks Day showdown. The Bears capitalized on a power play to score the first and second goals of the game but the Coyotes answered early in the 2nd tying up the game 2-2. Then 3-3 in the third. Goals scored by Reed Dermott, Jack Burke and Kohen Weiss. Despite outstanding goaltending by Eli Daniels, offensive efforts from Ray Duckett, Seamus Wicksted, Ryan Dziama, Gibson Godin, as well as the tremendous defence of Cooper Knelson, Finten Seney, William Thorn, Max Champion, L.J. Noble and Charlie Coughlin, the Coyotes had to settle for the silver medal with a 3-7 loss.
The finals were preceded by a great showing at the Elmvale Maple Syrup Country tournament on the weekend of March 7th. There, the Tier 2 Coyotes held their own against some Tier 1, highly ranked teams. The boys played as a team and showed off their talent at the Skills Competition. Thanks to Deborah Coughlin, the Elmvale community, vendors and all of the volunteers for making this home tournament such a success.
Coaches Brandon Godin, Darryl Van Loosen, Logan Noble and A.J. Champion are proud of the hard work, determination and accomplishments of the team.
