McNamara Novice's Come Up Short At Silver Stick
The Novice Rep Coyotes returned home to the snowy and cold north after a 3 day trip to St Clair Shores Michigan. There they competed in the International Silver Stick Finals.
Unfortunately the Coyotes were unable to make the playoff round going a disappointing 1-2 in the Round Robin portion of the tournament.
The Coyotes started off slow against the BCH Ice Dogs in game #1, only able to generate 1 shot in the 1st period, but still found themselves in a scoreless tie. The 2nd period wasn't much better as only a couple shots were generated while BCH found the back of the net once to take a 1 goal lead into the 3rd. The 3rd period was evenly played but the Coyotes were not able to put anything past the BCH netminder, and with less than 2 minutes remaining BCH added an insurance goal and added an empty netter not long after for a 3-0 final.
Back at it in the afternoon the Coyotes came out with a little more jump in their step and were able to score early to take a 1-0 lead on the Pembroke Kings. That lead held until late in the 2nd period when Pembroke tied it. Pembroke would go up 2-1 part way through the 3rd period, but the Coyote pressure would finally yield some results as the Coyotes were able to put 3 past the keeper the rest of the way.
With the situation clear for game 3. A win by 4 goals was needed over the undefeated Ilderton Jets, in order to secure a semi final berth. Unfortunately the Coyotes were not able get going, and similar to game #1, only able to generate a few shots in the 1st couple periods combined. Ilderton's pressure finally broke down the Coyote defense, and through the solid Coyote goaltending solidifying a convincing 4-0 win, sending the Coyotes home.
Ilderton and BCH went on to meet in the finals on Sunday with Ilderton coming out on top. A good experience for the team, and great warm up for the preliminary round of the OMHA playoffs which gets started tomorrow night against the Blackhawks from Collingwood.
Game #1 > Wed 6:50 in Elmvale
Game #2 > Thu 6:50 in Collingwood
Game #3 > Sun 2:25 in Elmvale
