After struggling to find the net in five preseason games, the Gary
Edgecombe CA Peewee Rep team potted six goals in two periods to tie
an entertaining game in Parry Sound.
Period one saw Parry Sound take a very early 2-0 lead on a bad
angle shot and a bouncing puck. Elmvale netminder, Adam McIntaggart,
did what he could, but the rest of the team seemed slow and
disorganized. The first period ended 4-0 and it appeared that
Elmvale fans were in for a long night.
William McDowell replaced an ill Adam McIntaggart in the Elmvale net. Parry Sound attacked again, but the Coyotes fought back. After surviving a penalty kill, Carter Crowder scored in close. Parry Sound responded with their fifth, but the Coyotes seemed to be on to them. Henry King scored, and Jack Nell scored shortly after him. Parry Sound took advantage of another Elmvale penalty to score their sixth goal, but on even strength, Elmvale seemed to have more depth and stamina. Jason Priest ended the second period with a gritty goal. With the Coyotes down 6-4 after two, coach Dean Robertson used the flood intermission to motivate his team.
The Coyotes came out flying in the third. Parry Sound's shooters were shadowed and stripped of the puck. Ethan Faris scored to bring the Coyotes within one. Noah Dion scored later to make it a 6-6 tie. With less than a minute left, and Parry Sound down two men due to desperate penalties, Elmvale set up the power play and came very close with a last second shot from the point. With another 30 seconds, they may have won the game, but the team was just happy to be going home to a Sunday practice without having lost.
