Amalgamation News and Survey
For All Membership of the Elmvale Minor Hockey Association, Midland Minor Hockey Association and Penetang Minor Hockey Association.

Midland, Penetang, Elmvale and OMHA have been in discussions about the future of hockey in North Simcoe. As part of this discussion, the topic of amalgamation was brought up as a potential option moving forward. In particular, a Hybrid Amalgamation was tabled.

What is a Hybrid Amalgamation?

A Hybrid Amalgamation is when multiple Associations come together to create one Representative Association, while each existing Association keeps their own Local League/House League.

In our case the three Associations that come together would create an “A” centre.  “A” Centres have rep for all age groups - for example - U10, U11,U12,U13,U14,U15, etc… (minor, major approach).

We are seeing many Associations around Ontario take this approach and have already amalgamated in the hybrid model.  South Simcoe (Bradford, Innisfil), Upper York (East Gwillimbury, Georgina), Haldimand (Caledonia, Cayuga, Dunnville, Hagersville),  Norfolk (Port Dover, Simcoe, Waterford), King Township (Nobleking, Schomburg) to name some. All of these have come together to make a higher level rep and have kept their own Local League teams.

We have also all been told that Oro and Orillia are discussing amalgamation as an option for their Associations.

The rationale for this is to provide and support higher level hockey for our competitive players in our area and to support the strength of our Local League teams while keeping all three associations and their strong history in the community.

Please note: that an amalgamation can take up to 2 years to be accepted by OMHA and implemented.

We are asking for our memberships to fill out the below survey to let us know their opinion on the above proposal of a Hybrid Amalgamation.
