There will be 5 events for the Atom AE skills competition. Each team is to have 1 participant per event (note goaltenders will be used in breakaway challenge, but are not awarded a trophy for that event). The skills competition is scheduled to start at 5:00 on Friday. Players should arrive and be ready to go 20 minutes early. If the tournament is running ahead of schedule we will start the skills competition early.
Coaches need to register their players for the competition by Jan 3, 2013. You do so online with this form (Register Atom AE Skills Participants)
Event #1 > Fastest Skater
- 1 Full lap of the ice timed
- 2 players go at once
- Top 2 times face off in head to head final
Event #2 > Puck Handling
- Timed run through pylon course
- 2 players go at once
- Top 2 times face off in head to head final
Event #3 > Shooting Accuracy
- 4 targets suspended from net
- 2 lower targets worth 2 points
- 2 higher targets worth 3 points
- Each player gets 7 shots from between hash marks
- Top 2 participants (and ties) face off in head to head final (highest cumulative score wins)
- Final is 4 shots each
Event #4 > Goaltender Shooting Accuracy
- Each goaltender gets 5 shots on open net from outside blueline
- Top 2 goaltenders (and ties) face off in head to head final (highest cumulative score wins)
- Final is 4 shots
Event #5 > Breakaway Challenge
- Preliminary Round - Each player is given 4 shots
- All players who score more than 1 goal in their preliminary round move on to the sudden death final round
- Final Round - Each player will be given 1 chance to score, if they miss they are eliminated from the competition
- Sudden death continues until only 1 player remains
