Tyke Select Enters First Tournament
Tyke Select goes head to head against league Super 7 teams and falls short in the round robin.

Elmvale Tyke Select entered its first tournament over the Christmas break gaining some great experience against top tier Super 7 teams.  Game 1 saw the team up against the eventual tournament winner the Ajax Knights.  A fast paced first period with end to end action saw us down 1-0.  3 minutes into the second period the Knights started to show their team chemistry and 20 plus games of experience taking a 6-0 lead.  Although the game sheet read 8-0 at the end the kids battled hard until the final buzzer.

Game 2 was equally as challenging vs East Gwillimbury Eagles another league team with plenty of experience.  Elmvale put the last game behind them and came out flying hitting two posts and missing an open net opportunity in the first period giving the Eagles all they could handle.  Those missed opportunities would prove costly eventually going down 3-0.

Tournament finalists Clarington Black Thunder would be our final game of the round robin and our toughest opponent yet.  The Thunder had won their first two games 13-0 and 15-0 so we knew we would have our hands full.  With not having scored a goal yet in the tournament, and the Thunder recording two straight shutouts, the team was a little nervous and Clarington opened the scoring only 29 seconds in.  Not getting discouraged the first line regrouped and Luke P. sniped our first goal of the tournament 67 seconds later tieing the game.  With the excitement of being the first team to score against Clarington the troops took it to the next level and got the Thunder off their game. Although the kids worked extremely hard, finding the twine proved difficult. Clarington took advantage of their opportunities taking the game 5-1 and cruising to the championship game.

Congratulations to our net minder Gavin S., Jaxon P. and Luke P. earning the player of the game awards respectively.  Gavin looked amazing in net showing a great deal of natural talent between the pipes.  Jaxon was outstanding on the blue line in Game 2 shutting down the Eagles offence and Luke P. had an amazing game against Clarington giving us multiple scoring opportunities and sniping the only goal against the Thunder in round robin play.  3 and out may not look or sound good, but I speak for all the coaches and parents in saying how proud I am of how the kids carried themselves.  Never giving up, always thinking positive and representing Elmvale like champions.  Super 7 League Select teams were definitely a step ahead but having only played one game together prior to the tournament our kids did amazing.

Congratulations to the team for beating the older siblings in the mini stick tournament back at the hotel!!  LOL!!

We are busy trying to schedule more games against other local select teams and playing in our second tournament of the year in Orillia during March Break.
