Elmvale Home Building Centre Bantam AE Team gets first Shutout of the session
On Tuesday Nov 20th the Elmvale Home Building Centre Bantam
AE Team faced off against the visiting Midland Centennials. This would be
the fourth time these teams faced each other this season with Midland having
the edge in points 4-2. With the Elmvale Coyotes needing a win to move up
in the standings they came out skating hard at the first drop of the
puck.
A determined Elmvale team continually won races for the puck but failed to score on any of their first period chances, leaving the score after 1 at 0-0. Midway through the second the continued effort from the Coyotes finally payed off as Thomas Maw found the back of the net on a pass from Philip Eales.
The second period ended with more sustained pressure from the Coyote offense but the score would remain at 1-0. The third period saw a tired Coyote team give up a couple scoring chances but with 1:53 left the Midland Centennials took a penalty that would have seemingly handed the Coyotes the win.
The Coyotes however have yet to end a game without a little drama this season, so in sticking with the season plan of entertaining their fans the Elmvale Home Building Centre Bantam AE's watched helplessly as a Midland Centennial player intercepted a pass for a clear breakaway that was stylishly handled by Elmvale goaltender Ryan Dauphin. After this heart-stopping moment the Coyotes managed to calmly kill off the remaining seconds of the game notching their 3rd win of the season and their first shutout.
The Elmvale Home Building Centre Bantam AE Team is off looking to take gold in the upcoming Napanee tournament and will be back at home Nov 27th where they will face the Coldwater Wildcats. Game time is 8:10 at the Elmvale Arena.
